Correcting what's really on the shelf
Counts drift - breakage, miscounts, samples. A stock adjustment reconciles the system to reality, and because it's logged as its own movement, you keep a clean audit trail of every correction.
Before you start
Adjustments are made against a specific lot of a product, from the product's detail page.
Step 1 - Open the product and its lots
Go to Inventory → Product Catalog, open the product, and find the lot you need to correct in its stock lots list.
Step 2 - Create the adjustment
Open Create Stock Adjustment and fill in:
- Lot to Adjust - the specific lot.
- Adjustment Type - Increase (Found Stock) or Decrease (Loss, Damage).
- Adjustment Quantity - how much to add or remove (e.g. 50).
- Reason - why (e.g. "Damaged during transport").
Step 3 - Save
Save it. The lot's quantity updates immediately and the change is written to the Transaction Log as an Adjustment, with your reason and name attached.
Tips
- Always write a clear reason - future-you (and auditors) will thank you.
- Use adjustments for corrections after a count; use transfers to move stock between locations, not adjustments.
FAQ
Does an adjustment delete history?
No. The original movements stay; the adjustment is added as a new, logged correction.
Can I adjust several lots at once?
Adjustments are per lot so each correction is traceable. Do them one lot at a time.
