Transferring stock between locations

Move inventory between warehouses, zones, or bins with a transfer that keeps lot identity and the full audit trail.

Moving stock without losing the thread

When inventory physically moves - dock to shelf, warehouse to warehouse, shelf to quarantine - record a transfer so the system knows where it is. Transfers preserve the lot's identity and are fully logged.

Before you start

You need at least two locations (open Inventory and click Go to Locations to manage them), and the stock you're moving must exist as a lot on the product.

Step 1 - Open the product's lots

Go to Inventory → Product Catalog, open the product, and find the lot in its stock lots list.

Step 2 - Transfer it

Open the transfer dialog and set:

  • From - the source lot (its Available quantity is shown).
  • Quantity to Transfer - how much to move (up to what's available).
  • Destination Location - where it's going.
  • Notes - optional reason for the move.

Step 3 - Confirm

Confirm the transfer. The stock now sits in the destination location, the lot keeps its number and expiry, and the move is written to the Transaction Log as a Transfer.

Tips

  • Partial transfers are fine - move only what physically moved.
  • Moving something suspect into a quarantine zone? Consider a formal hold instead so it can't be shipped. See Holding, quarantining & releasing stock.

FAQ

Does transferring change the quantity on hand?

No - total on-hand is unchanged; only the location changes. To change a quantity, use a stock adjustment.

Is lot identity kept after a transfer?

Yes - the same lot number and expiry travel with the stock to its new location.
