From recipe to finished lot, without the whiteboard

Define the formula once. Each batch records its selected material lots, output and wastage, and produces finished goods that are costed from what was actually consumed.

The life of a production batch

  1. 1

    Recipe

You define the formula: ingredients, quantities, and standard wastage. Recipes can nest other finished goods for multi-level BOMs.

  2. 2

    Start batch

Pick a recipe and a target quantity, then select the material lots and quantities for the batch.

  3. 3

    Run & record

Actual consumption, yield, and wastage are recorded against the batch while it runs on a production line.

  4. 4

    Complete

Finished goods are created as new stock lots, costed from the actual material lots consumed. If QC applies, they wait as PENDING_QC.

Recipes & multi-level BOM

A recipe is your production formula. Reference semi-finished goods inside other recipes to model real multi-stage manufacturing, with standard wastage per ingredient.

Production batches on real lines

Batches run against production lines you define. Selected material lots, consumption, yield, and output are tied to the batch record.

OEE with the inputs in view

On Scale, review availability, performance and quality against planned shifts and line speed. Missing inputs stay undefined. Threshold alerts and weekly summaries help the team follow recorded losses.

Instructions beside the batch

Add recipe steps and safety notes, assign upcoming batches to shifts, and warn operators about missing line training. Completion records the responsible user and time.

Downtime logging

Use a line QR link to start and end a stop on a phone. Recorded reasons feed the OEE breakdown; a read-only Andon display refreshes every 30 seconds.

Safety & EHS incidents

Report incidents from the same production hub. Environmental, health, and safety events get recorded with the details auditors ask for.

Fabrication projects

One-off builds and internal projects that don't fit a recurring recipe get their own project tracking inside the production module.

Set up the line, then trust the record

Start with line speed and planned working minutes. Record production, scrap and stops consistently. OEE and genealogy reflect those records; no machine connection is required.

OEE, SPC, genealogy and CAPA require Scale and the appropriate team permissions. Completion identity is an operational record, not a claim of regulatory e-signature certification.

Common questions

How is the cost of a finished batch calculated?+

From the actual raw-material lots the batch consumed, using each lot's snapshotted unit cost, plus recorded wastage. Not from a theoretical standard cost.

Can a recipe include another finished product?+

Yes. Recipes can reference semi-finished or finished goods as ingredients, so multi-stage production is modeled as nested BOMs.

What happens if materials run short mid-batch?+

Available quantities are checked when stock is consumed. A planned batch does not reserve its material lots; review availability and receive missing materials before completing production.

Do finished goods go straight to sellable stock?+

If quality control applies to the product, the new lots wait as PENDING_QC and cannot be shipped or consumed until they pass inspection.
