How a batch moves through chemical manufacturing

    Raw substance receipt

    Each drum or tote is its own lot with a supplier, concentration reference and the cost you paid. Concentration varies by delivery, which is why it belongs on the lot.

    Incoming verification

    QC against your own specification. Off-spec material quarantines with an NCR instead of being blended and discovered later.

    Blending

    The formula consumes substance lots into a blend batch. Actual versus theoretical quantities are recorded, so a concentration drift has a paper trail.

OSHA Hazard Communication and GHS

What it asks for
A safety data sheet for every hazardous chemical, and labelling that matches the material actually in the container.
Where the record comes from
Lots carry their supplier and receipt record, so the material in a container resolves to the delivery it came from. IEMSuite does not author or store SDS documents; that stays in your document system.

EPA TSCA inventory and recordkeeping

What it asks for
Records of substances manufactured, processed or imported, retained and retrievable by substance and volume.
Where the record comes from
Receipts, consumption and production quantities are recorded per lot with an immutable movement history, which is the volume evidence behind a TSCA record.

REACH registration and downstream use

What it asks for
Knowing which registered substance is in which product, and communicating identified uses down the chain.
Where the record comes from
Formulation recipes link each raw substance lot to the blends it enters, so a substance question resolves to the products containing it rather than a manual search of formulas.

Chemical Manufacturing inventory questions

How do I trace a chemical blend back to its raw material lots?

The blend has to be recorded as a transformation of tracked inputs, not as a new stock item. Each raw substance lot is consumed by the formula and the resulting batch keeps the link. If blending resets traceability, then an off-specification raw lot means investigating every blend made in the period rather than the ones that contained it.

How should chemical manufacturers track concentration variation between deliveries?

Store the assayed concentration on the lot and let the formula work from that rather than a nominal value. Two deliveries of the same substance rarely match exactly, and a formula built on the label figure will drift. The batch record then explains the drift instead of hiding it.

What inventory records matter most in a chemical safety audit?

Three things: which material was in which container, what quantity moved and when, and who authorised it. The first fails when lots are merged into a single stock number. The second and third fail when adjustments can be made without a logged actor and timestamp.

Can inventory software replace an SDS management system?

No. Safety data sheets are authored documents with their own revision and distribution obligations, and IEMSuite does not manage them. Inventory software answers which material is where and where it came from; the SDS answers what it is and how to handle it. Both are needed and they are different systems.
