What units of measure do
A unit of measure (UoM) is how a product is counted - kilograms, liters, individual units, cases, and so on. Setting them up once means every quantity across receiving, production, orders, and reports is consistent and comparable.
Where units live
Units are managed under Settings → Organization, on the Units tab. Add the units you need there once, and they become available on every product form.
Choosing units
Pick the unit you actually count and store the product in. If you buy coffee in kilograms and sell bags by the unit, the raw material is in kg and the finished bag is in units - the recipe bridges the two.
Using a unit on a product
When you create a product, set its Unit of Measure (a required field). From then on, every receipt, transfer, adjustment, production output, and order line for that product is expressed in that unit.
Tips
- Keep your unit list short and unambiguous. Fewer, clearer units means fewer mistakes on the floor.
- Decide on a convention for weight vs count and stick to it across similar products.

Can two products use different units?
Yes - each product has its own unit. A recipe can consume a raw material measured in kg and output a finished good measured in units.
Should I track packaging in units?
Usually yes - count boxes, labels, and wrappers as units unless you buy them by weight or volume.
