Fabrication Projects
Track custom fabrication orders and project-based manufacturing runs in IEMSuite with Fabrication Projects.
Fabrication Projects let you track custom, project-based manufacturing jobs that fall outside the standard recipe + batch workflow - for example, a bespoke assembly order, a custom tooling job, or a contract manufacturing project.
What Is a Fabrication Project?
Where a Production Batch is a repeatable run against a fixed recipe, aFabrication Project is a one-off or project-based job. It has its own name, description, start date, expected completion date, and status. Multiple team members can be assigned to work on a single project.
Typical uses:
- Contract manufacturing for a specific client order
- Custom product assembly with a unique BOM
- Prototype or R&D builds
- Tooling and fixture fabrication
Creating a Fabrication Project
Go to Inventory → Production → Fabrication
Click "Create Fabrication Project."
Enter project details
Name, description, client reference (optional), planned start and end dates.
Assign team members
Select the team members responsible for this project.
Save
Project is created in OPEN status and appears in the fabrication list.
Tracking Progress
Update the project status as work progresses. Add notes and attach documents (specifications, drawings, client approvals) to maintain a project file. The fabrication list gives you an overview of all active projects, their deadlines, and assigned team members.
Linking to Inventory
Material consumption for a fabrication project is recorded through manual stock adjustments (MANUAL_CONSUMPTION transaction type) against the relevant raw material lots. When the project produces finished goods, log an inbound record or production batch output to add the finished lot to inventory.
